Make Travel Easier With These Apps

Travel Hacks

It’s probably safe to say that many of us use our smart phones along with a variety of apps to help make travel easier. I might even consider using these apps as a kind of travel hack.

Some of my favorite travel-related apps picks probably won’t come as much of a surprise to you…

Here are some apps that I frequently use:

  • Tripit: to keep track & organize upcoming travel plans.
  • AwardWallet: keep tabs of my miles & points balances as well as save passwords for easy login.
  • Google Maps: Obvious- I haven’t turned on my Garmin GPS in over a year. When traveling around the U.S. I turn to Maps to get me where I need to go. (I also use Waze at times but find the screen to be way too cluttered.)
  • Currency: This is my go-to app for keeping track of the exchange rates of places I’m visiting. It’s a simple and clean look which works well.
  • TV Food Maps: This is my first place to look for good recommendations on places to eat which have been featured on food-TV shows.
  • Burger GPS: From burger expert George Motz- A fun app to check out if you love burgers. It’s a great resource but could use an update.
  • Twitter: Although not really travel-related, it’s a great app to keep track of what’s going on around the world. You can also use Twitter to get info about destinations you’ll be visiting.
  • Skype: As long as there is WiFi, it’s a great way to stay in touch. I’ve also used WhatsApp on occasion recently.

I came across an article from Buzzfeed which inspired me to write this list of the apps related to travel that I most frequently use.

In the article, Buzzfeed tells us about “29 Apps That Will Make Traveling So Much Easier“.

Some of the apps that I use/ mentioned are on Buzzfeed’s list but there are also some apps that I’ve never heard of before.

I’ll just mention the ones that I’m thinking of downloading.

  • Roadtrippers: Helps to create a custom map of things to do on your U.S. road trip.
  • CityMaps2Go: Allows you to store maps offline.
  • Jet Lag Rooster: Switch your sleep schedule around before going away so you’re not exhausted when you arrive.
  • Dude Where’s My Car?: Keeps track of where you parked & can also help you find parking.
  • Vayable: Find out about “unique experiences offered by locals”.
  • Fancy Tips: We’re always trying to figure out the tipping etiquette in the country we are traveling around. This app should help make it easier to know what to do.
  • Wi-Fi Finder: The app will help you find out where you can use free WiFi around the world.

There were other apps that also sounded useful but these were my favorites.
