Are These The Best Burgers In America?

A Burger Worth Waiting For: Holeman & Finch, Atlanta
Double Cheeseburger- Holeman and Finch

Burgers rank high on my list of favorite foods coming in just behind pizza. (Maybe even a tie.) While at home and when traveling (mainly domestic), I try to find the best burgers to chow down on.

The thing that I find so great about burgers is how they can be prepared so many different ways. The types of meat, bun, cheese and other toppinsg can make for an infinite amount of combinations!

Another fun thing about burgers are how they also come in a wide range of regional varieties. For example-  Minnesota has the Juicy Lucy’s which are stuffed with cheese while Milwaukee has butter burgers (use your imagination). I loved Minnesota’s regionally unique burger but found Milwaukee’s to not be my thing.

There are many best burger lists out there and I just came across another from Yahoo Travel. (I also want to thank Brian who writes BoardingArea blog The Gate for sending it my way.)

I went over Yahoo’s list and have heard of half of the places mentioned, and I have tried two of them.

Here are Yahoo’s picks for Best Burgers in America:

  • Office Burger– Father’s Office, Santa Monica, CA
  • Torta De Hamburguesa– Topolobampo, Chicago
  • 3D Valley Farm Burger– Holy Grale, Louisville, KY
  • Double Cheeseburger– Holeman & Finch Public House, Atlanta
  • Surf, Turf & Air Wagyu Kobe Burger– Tender- Las Vegas
  • South Carolina Burger- Sesame Burgers & Beer, Charleston, SC
  • Green Chile Cheeseburger– Santa Fe Bite, Santa Fe, NM
  • Juicy Nookie– Casper & Runyon’s Nook, St Paul, MN
  • Sebastian’s Steakhouse Burger– Brindle Room, NYC
  • The Big Okie– Hank’s Hamburgers, Tulsa, OK

I tried the Double Cheeseburger at Holeman and Finch during our trip to Atlanta two times. I had it at the restaurant and at the Braves game the following day. Find out more in my post A Burger Worth Waiting For: Holeman and Finch.

I tried the Brindle Room’s Steakhouse Burger a couple of years back and remember liking it but not enough to return since. I wish I remembered more details about it but it’s been a while…

Have you tried any burgers from Yahoo’s list? If so, which one(s) and how was it?

  1. I’ve had the burger at Santa Fe Bite (just FYI, not Biter, I’m assuming a typo). Very good flavor, also very thick – probably at least an inch thick after cooking. They apparently drive an hour each day to pick up their meat that is ground fresh every day. Many people think it’s the best green chile cheeseburger in New Mexico, while others prefer other places where the burger isn’t at thick – higher ratio of cheese and green chile to burger, I guess. To each their own. I personally think it is a very good representation of what a green chile cheeseburger should be.

  2. antignos- I’ve been wanting to try out Hubert Keller’s Burger Bar in Vegas but won’t be trying the $60 burger. I’m not a truffle & foie fan. Have you had it? Curious if it is worth the huge price.

Rich A.- I can’t say that I’ve heard of these. I checked out the site and it definitely looks interesting!

shay peleg- I’m not sure about who competes with how fattening their burgers are. Any examples? The burger in Milwaukee is topped with butter not stuffed with it. I also don’t get why people like this!

  3. Why does it seem that every place competes on how fattening his burger is? why can’t they just compete with quality? and why would i ever want to eat a burger stuffed with butter

  4. The Burger Joint at Le Parker Merdien NYC???

The Sidecar at Husk Charleston SC????

    Holeman & Finch ATL?

    C’mon!!!

    1. I’ve been going to The Burger Joint at Le Parker Meridien since it (pretty much) opened and find it to be very good but not one of the best I’ve even had in NYC.

The burger at Husk has been on many of these top burger lists and I’d love to try it out one of these days. Is it as good as it looks?

H&F made the list. Do you not like it?

  5. Have you tried Mick’s Karma Bar in OC? He just opened a new burger place in LA called Hache LA. Best burger I’ve ever had.
