Where We Went In 2013

20132013 was an awesome and busy year of travel for Kim, Lucas and I.

While we don’t travel for work (all of our trips are for leisure), we still  managed to take 9 trips this year.

We visited a diverse mixture of countries and U.S. states, flying mainly with miles and points. (I haven’t included roadtrips in my totals.) We only paid for one of our flights due to it being such a good deal.

In case you’re interested in how how we used miles and points to pay for our flights, I’ve included links to my trip planning posts to each of the places we’ve visited.

So, where did we go?

International: We visited 6 countries, 7 depending on who you ask during 4 of our trips.

  1. Russia: Moscow and Saint Petersburg
  2. Japan: Tokyo, Yokohama, Hiroshima, Miyajima Island, Kyoto & Nara
  3. The Balkans: Serbia, Macedonia, Kosovo (disputed territory) & Albania
  4. Germany: Berlin and Munich

Of these countries visited, 5 (possibly 6) were new ones for me. This was my second visit to Germany but the first time for Kim and Lucas.

Domestic: We flew to 6 states (5 trips) this year. In one of the states we didn’t get to do much sightseeing but we were there for a good reason- BAcon, the Boarding Area Conference.

  1. Colorado & New Orleans, LA (check out my original trip planning post here)
  2. Milwaukee, Wisconsin
  3. Minnesota
  4. Florida
  5. Dallas, Texas

I visited four new states in 2013 while Kim visited 5 and Lucas 6. Years back I visited New Orleans for work although I didn’t get to do much sightseeing. I’ve also been to Florida many times in the past.

That wraps up my quick run-down of our 2013 travels. I left out a few roadtrips that we also took to Pennsylvania and upstate New York.

We’re looking forward to 2014 bringing us another great year of travel. Thanks to some amazing airfare deals booked through Wideroe (back in November), we’re busy planning 3 trips to Europe between January and April. We also have another, short trip already planned towards the end of the school year. Stay tuned…
