Lonely Planet’s Best In Travel 2014 sounds like an interesting reference guide. It offers the best trends, destinations, journeys & experiences for the upcoming year.

While I’ve never purchased this kind of guide, I love skimming through them, seeing what made the list for the upcoming year. For Lonely Planet to come up with their results they used information provided by LP staff, authors and online community.

A list of interest to me was the Top 10 Countries for 2014. I wouldn’t necessarily use this list to help me decide where to visit next but it’s fun to see what is supposed to be hot for the new year.

Here are the Top 10 Countries:

  1. Brazil
  2. Antarctica
  3. Scotland
  4. Sweden
  5. Malawi
  6. Mexico
  7. Seychelles
  8. Belgium
  9. Macedonia
  10. Malaysia

While looking over the list I noticed that a couple of the places that made the cut are not independent countries. Antarctica is a continent with territorial claims made by various countries and Scotland is one of four countries making up the United Kingdom.

It was also interesting to see that I’ve been to 70% of the countries from the list although I could use a revisit to a few to get a better feel for those countries.  The countries that I haven’t been to are Antarctica, Malawi and the Seychelles.

How many countries from Lonely Planet’s Top 10 for 2014 have you been to?
