11th Annual openhousenewyork Weekend: October 12-13

OHNYWe’re 10 days away from the annual openhousenewyork (OHNY) weekend.

openhousenewyork is an amazing weekend which gives access to sites all over New York City, many which are not usually open to the public.

Here is the OHNY Mission:

openhousenewyork® (OHNY) is a 501(c)3 organization that promotes a greater appreciation of the city’s built environment; broadens public awareness by exposing diverse audiences to distinctive examples of architecture, engineering and design; educates and inspires discussion of issues of excellence in design, planning and preservation; and showcases outstanding new work as well as structures of historic merit.”

I’ve participated in OHNY Weekend a few times and visited some pretty interesting sites. The first time I did a tour of New York’s first municipal airport- Floyd Bennett Field. I’ve also visited some historic homes, toured an unfinished section of the High Line and toured the cheese caves at Murray’s.

OHNY should have something of interest for everyone- including tours and workshops for kids too!

When I participated, all of the tours were free. However, some tours require reservations which now have a $5 service fee.

Reservations open today, October 2 on Eventbrite.

If you’ve participated in OHNY in previous years, let us know what sites you visited.
